Asteroid - Year 5

Welcome to Year 5 Powerpoint

Welcome to Year 5,

Miss Bowles is Asteroid class teacher

Your new learning experience is  Time Traveller

Please see our curriculum newsletter at the top of page for more information

Our PE days will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Please ensure that the children come to school in the correct kit on these days and that long hair is tied back. We do not allow the children to wear earrings for PE, so please can they be removed on these days or taped over.

Maths homework out on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday ready to be marked. Spellings will be handed out on a Friday and tested on the following Friday. Your child should be able to complete this work independently, as it will be based on work they have already done in class. Please do not hesitate to email us if you have any concerns before the due date.

It is also beneficial if all children regularly practise their times tables facts, so that they will improve their speed of recall. Times Table Rockstars is a great resource to support this and it can be accessed on laptops and tablets at home.

We are also encouraging all children to read at home; this needs to be recorded into the children's reading records. It is very important for the children to read regularly and enjoy a wide selection of books. They need to read 5 times a week at home and this needs to be signed in the Reading Record by an  adult.

We will be adding photos, news and pieces of work regularly to this page, so make sure you come back soon.

Please feel free to email the school with any questions you may have, if not please catch me on the playground to ask!

Thank you for visiting.

Time Traveller Hook Day

On Friday, 14th November, Year 5 spent the day exploring ancient artefacts dating back to the Stone Age. The children learned about the historical journey of the first settlers and examined archaeological evidence, including flint tools, Bronze Age metalwork, and images of local ancient hillforts. Despite the rain, Year 5 enjoyed an amazing Stone Age-themed Hook Day. We are looking forward to returning to Ham Hill later in the year.

Puberty

During the fourth week of our Autumn two term, Year 5 pupils will be undertaking PSHE and Health Education lessons. We will begin by looking at the process of growing up, focusing on the physical and emotional changes that occur, including the menstruation cycle. Girls and boys will be taught separately, which is in line with the school policy.

The areas we will be covering are:

  • growing up – physical and emotional changes
  • the menstruation cycle
  • caring for our bodies – hygiene
  • puberty
  • body changes – differences between boys and girls

We will be watching the following video:

Year 5 Hook Day
