ELSA Support (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)
Mrs Denny Verlander - Our highly experienced ELSA supports the pupils in school with a host of different issues, to enable them to process and be available for their learning.
As a trained Tunning Into Teens facilitator, Mrs Verlander runs regular parenting support groups, both in the school day and evenings for families of the schools within the local area.
Staff will refer pupils to ELSA for emotional support where Denny will contact parents to discuss any areas of concern they may have. Whilst this is a confidential service for our pupils, if we felt it important for parents to be informed of ways they can support their child, communication is always sought.
Emotion coaching is used to support parents and pupils regulate and help them to be successful in their day. We all benefit from emotional support and our pupils get the best!
ELSA is only a short term strategy informing intervention. it is not a counselling service or something that pupils are entitled to access long term. We are here to give support to help pupils regulate and off load. If further counselling or intervention is required, we will discuss this with parents and signpost to alternative services.
Mrs Verlander is also supported by Mrs Chris Richards - who supports with social communication groups allowing pupils to develop key communication strategies and skills through play-based and interaction sessions.
You can make a referral for your child to access this amazing team by talking to their teacher or contacting the school office via email : office@wincantonprimaryschool.co.uk
