Year 4 Parent Presentation

Welcome to Sun Class!

Welcome Year 4!

The adults that work in this class are Miss Paull (Monday-Wednesday), Mrs Groves (Thursday and Friday) and Mrs Perry.

Our new learning experience is:   Bake Off

This first half term will be a science-based experience, focused on states of matter (solids, liquids and gases), and how they might change when mixed with other substances and temperature is altered. We also experiment with temperature variables, evaporation and the processes of melting and freezing.

The children will be immersed into the world of bread and the artistry that it entails! Visiting a local baker will enable the children to learn more about the craft, the science behind it, and will allow us all to be bakers and tasters for the day. To promote our teamwork value, the children will be working in small groups to consider different ingredients as they begin to design their own style of specialty loaves, which they will make during the final weeks. The children will explore different flavours and combinations by investigating the current bread market, and take inspiration from baker, Nadiya Hussain. As the children will have made bread rolls on their hook day, they can use their newfound knowledge to help create their own special loaf, which will be judged in our very own Bake Off!

* Please see the Curriculum Newsletter above for more information.

This term our PE days will be on a Monday and a Thursday. Please ensure children come to school in the correct kit on this day and that long hair is tied back. Children are allowed to bring daps to wear in the hall which can be left in a named bag on your child's cloakroom peg. We do not allow the children to wear earrings for PE so please can they be removed or taped over on these days.

How you can support your child at home:

  • Talk about food – where it comes from and why it is important to eat healthily
  • Ensure that your child reads at least 5 times a week and has the opportunity to discuss their reading. with you. Please could you ensure this is recorded in their reading record.
  • Learn times tables facts up to x12 so the children can recall them without hesitation! Times Table Rockstars is great for this!
  • Practise their spellings with them - lots of ideas on the inside of the reading record.
  • Talk about what they have learnt in school.

Class Rewards

In order to promote positive behaviour, we reward the children with: raffle tickets, smiley faces, fishy points (house points) and a reading treat. If the class is able to achieve 100 reads, then the children who contributed significantly will be able to choose a reward. In addition, we have a traffic light system for behaviour and if the children are on the star at the end of the day, they will receive a raffle ticket. This allows us to encourage the students to engage in their learning and reward those who are participating and show a positive learning attitude.
